The Zen Teaching
of Hui Hai

by Hui Hai
translated to English by John Blofeld
Hui Hai's full name in pinyin is Dazhu Huihai, a
Zen master of Tang Dynasty China. This means
the "Great Pearl" Huihai.  His master was the
famous
Mazu. He is sometimes confused with
Baizhang Huaihai, also a fellow student of
Mazu--their "dharma" names being very similar.
originally written in Chinese characters, c.
700-800 as
Dun Wu Ru Dao Yao Men Lun, and
also the
Zong Jing.
translated to English by J. Blofeld, c. 1968.
Hui Hai and Huang Po are both masters. They
impart, they don't teach.
