Daoism is the indigenous religion of China, being basically a way of living in accordance with the natural laws of the universe. Daoist masters would look at nature all around them, the animals, the plants, the rivers and oceans, and then live in harmony with that experience. When Daoism mingled with the Buddhist experience imported from India, Chan was born in China. This is usually called Zen in the western world. It means literally, "meditation." |
