
| Some of you may have heard of the law of the French scientist Emil Coue: The Law of Reverse Effect. We can do what we want to do in such a way that it brings the opposite result of the one intended. Someone is learning to ride a bicycle. The road is big and wide, just a small rock is lying by the side of the road. The cyclist becomes afraid of bumping into it. There is a hundred-to-one chance against the cyclist running into that rock – even a blind person would, in all probability, pass it safely by – but because of the fear, the rider becomes over-conscious of it. The rock looms large in this person’s mind, and the rest of the road vanishes. The person is hypnotized by that rock, drawn to it, and finally runs into it.
