Devil, The
c. pre-history, dates unknown
aka:  Satan, Lucifer, Beelzebub, etc....

mythological, legendary concept of "evil" in
religious scripture, sometimes
anthropomorphically imaged, and sometimes just
a theological conception.

Christian, Islamic, and Judaic religions all conceive
of a devil image and reality.

Engish word "devil" comes from the Greek word
diavalos, meanining "accuser", but also may
derive originally from the Sanskrit
deva, meaning
"divine".

The Devil is usually positioned opposite of God in
the scriptures, especially in Christianity.  He
tempts mankind with "sinful" actions, and is
sometimes imaged as a "fallen angel", who is in a
battle with God for the souls of humanity.

In Christianty, the Devil rules over "Hell", a
mythological geographical place where humans
go after death if they are not godly people, and
have sinned enough on Earth in their lifetimes to
be judged to reside forever.

how to tell the black people that the Devil is black
and God is white? They could conceive of God as
black and the Devil as white. And that was natural,
they had always depicted their God as black; their
Devil had always been white. You may not be aware
of what the Christian missionaries had to do. In
African translations of The Bible, God is depicted as
black and the Devil as white; otherwise there could
be no communication, no possibility of any meeting...
