    printed sign above it identifies it
    as from the Tang Dynasty (c.
    700-900), being an eating table.
    The characters carved into the
    pillar read Nanwu (namo) A mi
    tuo fo (Amitabha)--the ever
    prevalent Buddhist mantra chant.
