Dostoevsky was an anti-czarist in the beginning,
was arrested and imprisoned for his activities,
supposedly reprieved at the last moment when he
went before a firing squad.
renounced socialist ideas, became a Christian
married a widow, who died
went to Europe, married a 20 year old girl
had gambling compulsion, drinking, poverty
moved to St. Petersburg, died of
emphysema/epilepsy, buried.
Dostoevsky has written a beautiful novel, The Idiot. Had Lao Tzu read it he would have appreciated it. The idiot in Dostoevsky's novel is exactly the man who will be called foolish, but who is wise.
