God
pre-history, unknown dates
aka: Yahweh, El, Elohim, Deus, Allah, Theos,
The Almighty, The Lord, The Creator, The
Father, Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, etc...
mythological, legendary "creator" of the universe in
various religions of the world, also sometimes used to
connote the divineness of the universe in all it's
manifestations.
The English word "God" usually identifies the supposed
creator of the universe as originally conceived by the
Semitic people of the Middle East. The Jews would write
this as YHWH (Yahweh) (in Hebrew letters) in their
temples and scrolls--it is meant to be unsayable, only
written. The word "El" also is a common name of God
for the Jews. ("Old Testament" of the Holy Bible).
The Greeks translated this to "Theos" in their writings
("New Testament" of the Christians in the Holy Bible).
The Latin (language of the Romans, and the Catholic
Church) use the word "Deus", or "Dei".
The Muslims use the word "Allah", written in Arabic in
the Quran.
The Germanic people use "Gott".
And the English say and write "God".
The Hindus of India use a trinity of divine beings for the
concept of God, Brahma (the creative source), Vishnu
(the manifesting force), and Shiva (the destroyer).
Images of God are usually absent in the 3 religions of
the Semitic based religions (Judaism, Christianity, and
Islam). The Jews do not portray God in any particular
image. The Muslims forbid any images, either of Allah
or their prophets, and Christianity usually omits any
image, although the famous painting by Michaelangelo
on the Sistine Chapel of God (c.1500) usually serves
as the most well known illustration of the Christian God
in an anthropomorphic rendering.

All the religions believe that God created the world and also mankind. But if you are created by someone, you are only a puppet, you don't have your own soul. And if you are created by somebody, he can uncreate you any moment. He neither asked you whether you wanted to be created, nor is he going to ask you, "Do you want to be uncreated?"
God is the greatest dictator, if you accept the fiction that he created the world and also created mankind. If God is a reality, then man is a slave, a puppet. All the strings are in his hands, even your life. Then there is no question of any enlightenment. Then there is no question of there being any Gautam the Buddha, because there is no freedom at all. He pulls the strings, you dance; he pulls the strings, you cry; he pulls the strings, you start murders, suicide, war. You are just a puppet and he is the puppeteer...
