Hongzhi Zhengjue became well known in
Chan circles for collecting 100 Zen stories, and
adding his own poetic verses to each. Later, a
Chan master named
Wansong Xingxiu added
extensive commentaries to that book, which
came to be known as
The Book of Serenity,
published in the late Song Dynasty of China.
Wansong refers in this book to Hongzhi as
"Tiantong", another name that he used.
