This is the Japanese text of the memorial stele, shown in Chinese in the previous photo. The Chinese have little kind sentiment towards their neighbors to the east as a general rule--most of this antipathy resulting from the "invasion" and "occupation" between 1937-1945 by the Japanese military. You do not see Japanese language on the mainland, especially on a long-lasting tablet like this, unless it is some project that the Japanese are footing the bill for. This modern example at Bodhidharma's temple is a good example of this, I think. |
