A view looking up at Bodhidharma's stupa. The history of this is not really clear, but I have heard somewhere that this structure you see was built in the 14th century around the original stupa. As the 1st Ancestor of Chinese Chan is said to have died sometime in the 6th century, you are talking about maybe 800 years difference. What is inside of this pagoda is unknown, at least to me. The deaths of many Zen masters seem to be shrouded in mystery for some reason. |
