Transmission of the Lamp, Book 4
Mt. Niutou is near modern Nanjing, China.  This
Chan master is very important in the fact that he
and his dharma brother Hongren both claimed
tranmission from their master Daoxin. This is the
first example of a non-singular branching of the
Zen lineage in its history. The Oxhead School
was overshadowed and even ignored by the
more successful stream that emanated from
Hongren, and eventually died out.
