This may be the famous "stonehead" site of Zen master Shitou Xiqian (Sekito, J.), or it may be his predecessor, a Buddhist master named Haiyin. Shitou's roushen, disappeared from Nantai Temple at some time in history. The Japanese say they have Shitou's real-body relics in a major Soto temple in Tokyo, but some scholars are questioning the truth of that. |
