The total world population as of January 1, 2012 is estimated to be: 6,986,151,733 — Sometime in 2012 (est. April, 2012), the 7 billion mark is expected to be reached (Note: Other population viewers, such as the UN, estimate the 7 billion mark was likely already reached in late 2011). As shown in the chart below, the number of human beings on Earth increase (factoring in deaths) about 213,000 every day — which adds up to a 78 million increase every year. Just 40 years ago, in 1970, the world population was 3.9 billion, about half of what it is today. |
