the Sufi order of the "whirling dervishes"
eventually was formed by his followers, after
Rumi's death.

his original name
Jalal-al-Din means "Splendor of
the Faith" in Arabic.
Rumi means "Rome", and is a later name given to
him, as his residence in Turkey (then called
Anatolia) was considered to be part of the Roman
world to the eastern people.
