The Teachings
of Hui Neng
by Hui Neng

Huineng was considered the 6th Patriarch of Chinese
Chan (Zen). He is one of the major figures of Zen--very
famous and very respected.
There is no actual book titled "The Teachings of Hui
Neng" that I know of, but....
Huineng was the author of a writing called
The Platform Sutra, sometimes also titled The Altar Sutra
in English translation.
The Chinese title is:
六祖壇經
Liu Zu Tan Jing (Sixth Ancestor's Platform Sutra)
Huineng did not write it, but spoke it, supposedly written
down by others. The Platform Sutra was originally
composed in Chinese characters, and has been recently
been translated into English by numerous people,
including Red Pine, Thomas Cleary--it is easily
available now.
This small book is the only piece of literature in Zen that
has the title of a sutra, ("jing" in Chinese), besides the
sutras of Gautam Buddha himself.
