Gorky, Maxim

Today it seems I am surrounded by Russians. The sixth is
Maxim Gorky's
The Mother. I don't like Gorky; he is a
communist, and I hate communists. When I hate I simply
hate, but book
The Mother, even though written by Maxim
Gorky, I love it. I have loved it my whole life...

The Mother

by Maxim Gorky
The Mother was a novel written in 1907, when Gorky
would have been 39 years old.

'Maxim Gorky' was an artistic pen name for the man
Alexis Maximovich Peshkov (Алексе́й Макси́мович
Пешков). "Gorky" literally means 'bitter' in Russian.
Before this, he had written also under the pen name of
Иегудиил Хламида (Jehudiel Khlamida).

German playwright Bertolt Brecht wrote his play
The
Mother
in 1932, which was based on Gorky's novel.
