Idries Shah authored many books on the Sufis, written
in English. His book on Mulla Nasruddin helped
introduce this man into the western environment--there
are many Nasruddin stories in The Sufis, along with
some chapters on Attar Farid, and Rumi, among other
topics.
Idries Shah's father was from Afghanistan, and his
mother was Scottish. He claimed to be descended from
a Sufi order in the Hindu Kush region, with lineage from
the Prophet Mohammed himself.
