Vyasa
unknown dates, pre-history
aka:  Veda Vyasa; Krishna Dvaipayana;
Badarayana

Devanāgarī:
व्यास Vyasa

Hindu saint, sage, avatar, etc.

supposed author of the
Vedas, Mahabharata,
Puranas
, and other Hindu holy texts...

was the one who "split" the one Veda into four--his
name "Vyasa" means "the splitter".

his history is highly ambiguous--possibly a
combination of myth, history, legend, folklore, multi-
identity mergings, etc.

thought to be by some the same man as
Badarayana, the reputed author of the
Brahma
Sutras--
others think these are two separate
personages.

In India we have many books written by one man,
Vyasa. The Mahabharata is enough. To write a
book like The Mahabharata is enough for one
author. It is an
Encyclopedia Britannica. It will make
one man famous for ages to come. And that is only
one of the books that he has written – there are
hundreds of books in his name...
