Wenyan (Ummon Bunen in Japanese
pronunciation). Yunmen means
"Cloud Gate", and Wenyan is this
man's Buddhist name, meaning
"abandon the scriptures".
He was born in 864, and died in 949,
living a life of 85 full years as a Zen
monk and a Zen master. His master
was the famous Xuefeng (Seppo, Jap.)
